WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS.............!!
Our Level 9s and 10s are back from Las Vegas
after attending the 2010 Vegas Cup. The CLGTC delegation of 50 people all stayed
at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino, right on the Las Vegas Strip, and a fantastic, and
memorable, time was had by all! Coach Chris was even able to take his son, Adam,
for this wonderful 5 day "get-away".
The girls trained on Thursday and Friday at Vitaly Scherbo's School of Gymnastics,
and CLGTC gave Vitaly, one of the most-decorated gymnasts in Olympic history, a team
banner with all of their signatures on it as a thank you. On Thursday evening, the
group had it's annual "travel trip" team dinner at Dick's Last Resort. Wow, what
a fun time! The whole group, and wait staff, sang Happy Birthday to Chris, as his
45th!!!! birthday was the next day (Friday the 12th).
Friday evening had the group
attending Cirque Du Soleil. They saw "O" at the beautiful Bellagio. The girls, AND
their families, were astounded by the show.
Saturday was competition day. The Level 9s finished 2nd as a team! Quite impressive
considering the great teams that attended Vegas Cup. Regan Butchness was crowned
the Level 9 All-Around Champion!! She also won bars & beam, and was 2nd on FX! Other
Level 9 hi-lites included: Elaina Cammarata getting 2nd AA, 2nd V, 2nd FX, & 3rd
Beam. Shayla Kaempf was 5th AA and 1st on Vault. Lexi Enxing, trying her first
meet as a Level 9, was 5th AA. Clare Collins was 4th AA and 1st on V. Danielle
Dyra was 6th AA. Shea Mahoney didn't compete but she and her mom made the trip so
that she could be with her teammates and "sisters". She was a big help to Chris,
moving mats, boards, arranging floor music,...,etc. Shea is almost back from her
broken foot!
The Level 10s had a ROUGH meet on beam. Too much Vegas partying?? This
ended up costing them, and they finished 4th as a team. But there were MANY individual
hi-lites. Emily Turik ("T") won Level 10 Bars!! She even STUCK her full twisting
double back dismount! "T" was also 4th AA. Chantelle Loehner was 6th AA and 2nd
FX. Chloe Rehberg was 4th AA and 3rd on FX. Rachael Underwood was 5th AA. Nikki
Novak was 6th AA. Christine Liautaud was 5th AA. Megan ("Greeny") Greenfield was
2nd on Beam. Natalie Rothbauer was 5th on V. Miranda Saathoff was 6th on V. Morgan
Suma competed in her first meet of the year after having broken her elbow back in
November! She competed beam only. Unfortunately, she fell, but it is GREAT having
"Suma" back! Gabrielle ("Elle") didn't make the trip due to a family wedding. The
10s sure missed her presence. All in all, CLGTC had a great time! San Francisco
is on the radar for next February.
